Tips

  • Wash Regularly: Wash your feet daily with warm soapy water, making sure to get in between your toes.
  • Dry Well: Be sure to dry your feet thoroughly, especially between your toes. This will help prevent fungal infections.
  • It is important to recognize if you have any cuts, blisters, sores, ingrown toenails, or other conditions to stay ahead of the condition. Check your feet daily!
  • Did you know? Most corns and calluses are caused by improperly fitting shoes or abnormal gait.
  • Proper nail care can significantly reduce the risk of foot issues. When you are cutting your nails be sure to cut straight across.
  • Avoid walking barefoot indoors or outdoors.
  • Examine your shoes every day for cracks, pebbles, nails, or anything that could possibly hurt your feet.
  • Wear clean, soft socks that fit YOUR feet.
  • Always wear well-fitted shoes. Shoes that do not fit properly may cause blisters and lead to infections and other problems.
  • Keep skin soft with moisturizing lotion... but do not apply moisturizer in between toes.
  • People with diabetes must take special care of their feet. You should have a comprehensive foot exam every year.
  • Never trim your own corns or calluses: over-the-counter chemical agents and do-it-yourself treatment can irritate the skin of your feet and lead to secondary infections and wounds.
